The Essentials, Pt. 1

.every woman must own the essentials. the few items of clothing that are timeless, chic, and are ALWAYS and undoubtedly in style. the items that will carry you from the office to cocktails to movies and beyond.

. ever wonder how those women always look so impeccable, so effortless? simple. they own the essentials and know how to work subtle trends into their outfit..

.today, i'll take 5 essentials (the other 5 tomorrow) and explain why they're essentially, essential..

.the white shirt.

when i think of a white button-down shirt, the first thing that comes to mind are uniforms.. school uniforms that i was forced to wear to high school during my junior and senior. i hated them.. i had no appreciation for them.. but then, i got older and wiser. recently, i purchased a VERY form fitting khaki pencil skirt and a pair of hollister dark rinse bootcut jeans. a few days later, i had an interview to go to and the first thing i grabbed was the white button-down and the khaki pencil skirt--instant effortless chic. later that evening, i slipped into the hollister denims and went about my evening.

point is, BUY A GREAT WHITE BUTTON DOWN !! one that fits properly in arm length and has the correct darts to create shape. in my case, it had to create a waist (which it did) and the arm length had to be long enough (im a tall being).

.the pencil skirt.

any ol' skirt is fine, but the pencil skirt is the definition of sexy chic. slip into 1 of those bad boys and you're instantly a very fashionable sex kitten. its one of those pieces that get you hired or lure's in your prey while at an after work function. it's perfect. i know when i slip on my khaki colored pencil skirt, i own any and every room i walk into.. kind of like a power trip. watch any movie and notice that the HBIC is most often wearing a pencil skirt.. exactly.. now, go incorporate one into your wardrobe darling!

.the blazer.

this is an item that i bought back in 2oo8 and would not pull it out, until recently that is. had i known the powers that a simple blazer held, i would've been buying them! seriously. this is an epic piece in my closet! i can wear it with leggings, skinny or wide denims, to the office, out to drinks, on a date, ANYWHERE. and for a lil anemic person like me, that speaks volumes because I get cold very easy, so now I'm not having to slug around a ratty old jacket, i can be fashionable and chic and comfortable at the same time. go grab one!

lets see... 5inches, black, shiny, red bottoms. this is the EPITOME of chic and fabulous. they retail for 565$ and WILL be the next Essential to add to my wardrobe. another self explanatory piece.

.but perhaps the most important essential to have is confidence.. until tomorrow!....
